Why do we focus on educating youth in Kibera?
Kibera is a sprawling slum, approximately 6 km from the city center of Nairobi, Kenya. Kibera is the largest urban slum in Africa with population estimates of 500,000 to over 1,000,000 people. Most Kibera residents live in extreme poverty, earning less than $2.00 per day. Unemployment rates are high. A great majority lack access to basic services, including electricity, running water and medical care.
Educational attainment is one of the key drivers for economic mobility, but most people cannot afford education for their children. We therefore focus on providing pathways for children in Kibera to access school.
